Sarah (Sallie) Ann Holmes was the fourth child of "Babe of the Alamo" Angelina Elizabeth Dickinson Griffith and Oscar Holmes. Like her half brothers and sister, she too was abandoned by her mother. Sallie's grandmother Susanna Dickinson Hannig rescued Sallie from a convent and brought her back to Austin Texas where she grew into adulthood. She moved to San Antonio and married Manuel Ben Barrera. The couple were parents to six children who lived to adulthood. A son, Ignatius, died in infancy. After Ben Barrera died in February, 1922, Sallie married John P Burns. She also outlived him. Sallie was interviewed often by the San Antonio newspapers about her famous Alamo descendants. Sallie died on February 15, 1945 and is buried at City Cemetery No. 1 in San Antonio.
