She was the daughter of William Taylor Carter and Lula Victoria Bailey. She married Jack King on June 16, 1918.

My mother has a ring of hers. It was given to her by Iddy May's mother Ima Carter Simril. She called my mom into her room one day and asked her if she had ever given her a ring before and then presented her with a Cracker Jack candy prize ring and then just roared back and laughed. After that she gave her the real ring. Mom thought it was because her grandmother may have thought they looked alike.

A memory from my mother about her:

"I remember that we found out that she had died on Christmas Day in the 60's. Mother said that some of her siblings stayed with her sometimes, and she was terrified of storms. She made them all get in the closet until it was over. Billie never got over it. Mother always said that it was so hot in that closet and she was determined that her kids were not going to be afraid of storms. Guess that's where "God's rearranging the furniture" came from! Mother told me when I was young that one time I told her "I wish he'd get through".

We have her 5-year diary from 1962-1967. There isn't anything filled in after Fall 1964. She mostly wrote about going to church, the cemetery, the weather, and TONS about the flowers she planted and what was in bloom.
