GALENA, Ill, May 11 -- The Galena Gazette of this evening announces the death, at the family residence in Berryman, this county, of Phoebe G. Blair, an octagenarian, and one of the earliest settlers of the lead mines. She was vividly known hereabouts and greatly revered. Nathan C. Tenney, a leading bishop in the Mormon Church, is her son by her first husband. She was married the second time to "Tulley" [sic] Baker, a noted character in Northern Illinois in early times, and the founder of the city of Freeport. The deceased has been credited with being the first white woman who ever lived in the latter city.
