April 27, 1847, he was united in marriage to Sarah Cain, who survives him. To them were born seven children, six of whom are living. When a young man he united with the Methodist church, and on moving to Metz, transferred his membership to the United Brethren church of that place, in which he was a member until his death. He was a faithful husband, devoted father, always a kind and obliging neighbor, ready at all times to minister to the sick or those in need. He leaves a wife, six children, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother, and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss.
Uncle John will long be remembered for his jovial disposition and his cheery face given above bears witness to this fact. He could see a bright side to every circumstance in life, and took pleasure in helping his friends to also discover it. Funeral services were held at Mt. Pleasant, June 6, conducted by Rev. Baldwin. Burial near the church.
