Samuel, who through the years was listed as Samuel Briarly and Samuel Breasley, was born on March 15, 1813 at _________, __________. Samuel Brearley was married to Maria Vanderveer Conover, who was born on September 26, 1808 in __________, __________, the daughter of Elias Conover and Sarah (Vanderveer) Conover, on January 30, 1833 at Somerset County, New Jersey. Samuel and Maria brought their family west to Illinois in 18__ and are found residing in Pekin, Tazewell County, Illinois, in 1862. Sometime before 1866, Samuel and Maria moved to Canton, Illinois in Fulton County, where he purchased the Omega Flour Mill in Canton. Samuel ran the flour mill for several years. Maria died on May 6, 1886, while Samuel Brearley died on April 1, 1887 of pneumonia. Their earthly remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, Illinois. Five children are known to have been born to Samuel and Maria. They are;
1. David R. Brearley, born __________ __, 18__.
2. Elias C. Brearley, born March 21, 1841.
3. Anna E. Brearley, born __________ __, 1841/42.
4. Abraham V. D. Brearley, born __________ __, 1843; Abraham was a Union Soldier, serving as a Private in Co. F of the 30th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He died on April 11, 1863 at Belle Plain, Virginia, in the 20th year of his life. His earthly remains were laid in the Rocky Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, New Jersey in Somerset County. His stone reads "A Soldier's Grave."
5. Samuel Brearley Jr., born December 29, 1850; died on December 6, 1886 in New York where he is known to have been residing in 1880's; buried in the Rocky Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, New Jersey, near his older brother, Abraham.
