ELKHART -- Charles Wayne Overmyer, 69, of Elkhart, died Sept. 30, 2006 in Arnold, Calif., while on vacation.

He was born May 17, 1937, in Twelve Mile, Ind., to William and Margaret (Money) Overmyer. He married Anne M. Hughes on Aug. 29, 1964, in Elkhart.

She survives, along with four sons, Charles Wayne Overmyer Jr. and William A. "Andy" Overmyer, both of Orlando, Fla., James Bryce (Barbara) Overmyer of Elkhart and Joshua (Rosalie) Overmyer of Edwardsburg, Mich.; one daughter, Bethany Odem of Logansport; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie (Sean) Keating of Charlotte, N.C., and Delores Hosler of Kokomo; and one brother, Robert G. (Corinne) Overmyer of Black Diamond, Wash.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hartzler-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, 403 W. Franklin St., Elkhart. Private graveside services will take place in Adamsville Cemetery, with the Rev. Richard Dunn officiating.

Mr. Overmyer was employed by Elkhart Community Schools, where he taught elementary education at Mary Daly, Roosevelt and Monger elementary schools, retiring in 1997. He was a member and past president of the Elkhart Civic Theatre and a member of the National Education Association, Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, Flight Master of Elkhart and a life member of the DAV.

Mr. Overmyer was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was serving as a substitute teacher for Elkhart Community Schools and St. Vincent de Paul School.
