Eulogy: Rick Wyant 20Oct2003

I've spent the last week thinking about the question:
Who was Rob Wyant, my little Brother, my best Friend?

Rob was born Nov. 4, 1957 in Ft. Carson, Colorado, the son of Pearl and Ruth Wyant. Our Dad was a soldier, Mom a medical records librarian. Dad was stationed at Ft. Carson and retired shortley after Rob was born.

When Rob entered 1st grade, the teachers thought something was wrong with him, and a hearing test revealed Rob was about 80% deaf. this fact served to shape the rest of Rob's life.

Apart from the above history: On December 4, 1978, while a senior at CU, Rob was paralyzed in a windstorm accident in Boulder. He was returning from class when a gust of wind lifted a camper shell from a truck, striking him in the neck. After nine months of rehab, he returned to CU and finished his degree.

Rob wrote poetry before and after the accident, the most importan of which was entitled "Bluebird". in fact, Rob was thinking of this poem at the exact moment he was injured.

As I have thought about Rob, five qualities come to mind: Courageous, Spiritual, Compassionate, Loving, and Giving.
Rob's courage in the face of adversity, his spiritual approach to humanity, his compassion and empathy for others resulted in his ability to express unconditional love. He gave to everyone around him, regardless of whatever challenge he had each day.

Christmas was always important to Rob. He gave us his Christmas presents on October 5th, before he passed. It was a small Christmas with Mom, my wife Marci, my son Jeff and my daughter Stephanie............Rick Wyant, loving brother.
