Actress. Born in New York, she attended a fine arts school as a teen, and inspired by her love for moving film took her talents to Hollywood, landing numerous roles in silent films. She later went on to act with such stars as Clark Gable and John Barrymore. Some of her more popular films include 'The Painted Desert' (1932) where she co-starred with Clark Gable, 'Mille' co-starring with Robert Ames, and 'States Attorney' co-starring with John Barrymore. Her fame was later recognized by a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame located exactly at 6263 Hollywood Blvd. After her career had come to a sluggish pace she decided to marry Mr. Jack Woody, and had a son Jack Woody Jr. After a roller coaster marriage and numerous unsuccessful suicides by her husband (one famed attempt at jumping out a hotel window and landing on a canopy 12 stories below) they divorced. Helen traveled with her son and alleged husband and took one last film which flopped before her suicide in 1958. Her exact cause of death is disputed but it is believed to have been suicide.
