The grandchildren Alysa, Debra and Chad attribute their liberalism to their grandfather who believed the Republicans were destroying the economy in the 1980's with the trickle down theory of Ronald Reagan's. When the grandchildren were old enough to vote evidence of the recession were everywhere. Especially evident in Tequesta where they grew up, strip malls were entirely vacant. Just as Grandpa said, it never trickled down. "The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer, Debbie". He was undereducated, but he was right. All three grandchildren are democrat. In 1987, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor which had attributed to his mood swings of Debra's unfair label of "grumpy grandpa" behavior in the late 80's. The tumor was removed but he was unable to walk normally after the operation. He eventually deteriorated in health (mostly mentally with Parkinson's Sundowners Syndrome and Dementia) so that he was placed in a Nursing Home March 14, 2000. Ironically, the cost of the Nursing home care was paid by Medicaid a low income health program championed by Democrats.
