DUNCAN, Edwin Leroy
May 27, 1919-July 23, 2004
Of Applegate, CA, died at home on Friday, July 23, 2004 after a long illness. He was 85. Mr. Duncan was born on May 27, 1919, in Yankton, South Dakota. He was the son of Richard Arthur and Caroline (Almlie) Duncan. He moved with his family to California when he was very young and has lived in Placer County for over fifty-five years. He worked for the Pacific Fruit Express Railroad for thirty years, and retired in 1979. Edwin served proudly in the 36th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received various medals and honors, including a purple heart. Edwin is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Duncan, as well as their four children and their families: a son, Edwin and his wife Danna, of Applegate CA; a son, Lloyd and his wife Cheryl of Maple Valley, WA; a daughter, Lois Cundiff and her husband Aaron, of Applegate, CA; and a son, Stanley and his wife Laura, of Newcastle, CA. He also has five grandchildren, Christopher Duncan, Jonathan Duncan, Jeffrey Duncan, Matthew Downey, and Amy Beth Parson, and three great grandchildren, Kristen Duncan, Britney Duncan, and Jessica Duncan. He is survived also by a brother, Francis Marion Duncan, of Applegate, CA, and a sister, Violet Smith of Hemet, CA. Edwin is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Clarence Duncan, and a sister, Clarise Brewster. Edwin's life has touched many people over the years and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Hills in Auburn on Wednesday, July 28th at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at the New Auburn Cemetery.
