Simon Franklin February 27, 2011

Simon Franklin, 87, of the Altamont Community, was surrounded by his family at his home as he went peacefully to be with Lord on Sunday, February 27th, 2011. Simon was a Christian who loved and served the Lord. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Simon was an amazing carpenter who worked very hard all of his life. He served in World War II and was a member of Stamey Town Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for 46 years. Simon was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Marshall and Mary Benfield Franklin and his wife of 61 years, Hazel J. Franklin; sister, Mae Woody; brothers: Joe Franklin and Earl Franklin.

He is survived by his children who were the light of his life: Steve Franklin and wife, Nancy, Doug Franklin and wife, Deb, Suzie Pittman, and husband, Phillip, Leisa Willis and Amanda Franklin; grandchildren whom he adored: Stacy Robinson, Shelly Franklin, Daniel Franklin and wife, Ginger, Sara Pittman, Heather Wyatt and husband, Greg, Donna Buchanan and husband, Aaron, Jonathon Willis, Anthony Franklin, Adam Franklin, Robin Rosman, Kevin Klontz and Gino Sabucco; great grandchildren: Tyler, Mackenzie, Victoria, Hunter, Keegan, Seth, Noah, Haley, Sebastain, Rylee and Mikenna; sister, Barbara Franklin of Michagan; brothers: Bill Franklin and wife, Shirley of Valdese and Sam Franklin and wife, Virginia of Jonas Ridge.

Funeral Services will be held at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011, in the Stamey Town Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Jeff Brewer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday prior to the service at the church. Graveside Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1st in the Stamey Town Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
