Abbie Dolores Mingori was born to Romeo 'Charlie' Mingori & Maggie Falletti. A female child, also named Abbie, was born & died before Abbie was born. Charlie Mingori was a coal miner. He & Maggie had another daughter, Dora(Dora married 'Jake' Dittmann, also from Frontenac.) Both girls were raised in Frontenac, Crawford County, Kansas. Abbie married Arthur L. VanHouten I in Ft. Scott, Kansas, on December 1936. They had one child, Arthur L. VanHouten II. Abbie & Art, Sr., belonged to the First Christian Church in Pittsburg, Kansas. Abbie was a bookkeeper for Bottenfield's Beauty Supply. She retired after 25 years. Abbie was very well known for her expert hostessing. She created many, many table arrangements for weddings & other celebrations at the church & for countless friends. Abbie was very proud of her Italian heritage, an avid Republican, & known for her spaghetti & meatballs. She enjoyed people, loved joking around with wise-cracks & smart remarks, much like the humor of Bob Hope.
She was very attractive, dressed smartly & her coal black hair never turned 'grey'. She would want it noted here that she was a very pristine housekeeper, the envy of all who knew her & she loved going barefoot & mowing the grass in her barefeet. She was 'Nonna' to her 4 grandchildren.
