Kenneth O. Esh, 82, of 907 Main St., Port Royal, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at the Meda Nipple Convalescent Home, RR1, Thompsontown.

Born April 17, 1919, in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, he was the son of the late John K. and Irene (Okesson) Esh.

His wife, Mabel E. (McCachren) Esh, whom he married April 7, 1945, survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Elizabeth E.) Book, Port Royal; a sister, Marjorie Esh, RR1, Port Royal; a grandson, Eric K. Book, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Jeremy (Rebecca) Freed.

He was a WW II U.S. Navy Air Force veteran, having served in the European and African Theaters. He was a 1935 graduate of the Port Royal High School and a 1930 graduate of Severn Prep School, Maryland, and he had attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.

He retired as a draftsman from Standard Steel, Burnham. He was a member of the Port Royal United Methodist Church, Port Royal, Crawford-Brubakes VFW Post #5083, member and past commander of the American Legion Post #298, both of Mifflintown, past president of the Port Royal Borough Council, past president, secretary and treasurer of the Port Royal Lions Club, past secretary of the Port Royal Water Authority, past member of the Selective Service System Local Draft Board until it ended and was a member of the Juniata County Veteran's Council where he was a very, active member of the Military Burial Honors Detail. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, walking along and swimming in the ocean.

His funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, from the Port Royal United Methodist Church, Port Royal, with the Pastor Kenneth R. Kitzmiller and the Rev. James Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Old Church Hill Cemetery, RR2, Port Royal, where full military burial honors were accorded by the Juniata County Veterans Council. There was no public viewing, however family received friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Mifflintown Chapel of the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown. Family provided all funeral flowers.
