DECEASED PIONEER WAS NATIVE OF ENGLAND
ALFRED LOCKWOOD DIED AT HIS HOME MONDAY
Was born in Lincolnshire England and Came to America When a Small Boy
Had Lived in This County Over Forty Years.
Alfred Lockwood died at his home six miles north of this city Monday, after an illness covering a period of three weeks, During his last illness, every effort was made to combat the disease with which he was afflicted, but to no purpose and his many old friends and neighbors received the news of his passing with sincere regret. The deceased was sixty eight years of age and was a native of Lincolnshire, England. He came with his parents to this country when he was a small child and the family located first at Rochester, N. Y. and afterwards moved to Montgomery county, Ohio, where the deceased grew to manhood. When he was about twenty five years old he came west and located in this county and in a short time thereafter, was married to Ellen Whitlow. He took up his residence on the farm near Brock and continued to live there over 30 years. His wife died many years ago and was afterward married to Mary Williams, who survives him to share with the children the sorrow caused by his death and to share also the sympathy of the many friends of the family. Mr. Lockwood was the father of seven children, one of whom Mrs. Lizzie Buckridge, died about nineteen years ago. The surviving children are James Lockwood, whose home is in Knox County, Nebraska, and Mrs. Emma Conkel, Mrs. Mary VanWinkle, William Lockwood, Peter Lockwood, and Ed Lockwood, all of whom are residents of this county.
During the long period of his residence in this county, Mr. Lockwood had become widely acquainted and those who knew him regarded him as a good man and a most excellent citizen. He was a member of the Christian church and carried it's teachings into his daily life. These friends feel that his death is a distinct loss to the community.
The funeral was held from the family home on Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock and the services were conducted by the Pasteur of the Christian church at Brock. There was a large number of sorrowing and sympathetic friends present at the last rites. At the conclusion of the services the remains were laid to rest in the Glenrock cemetery.
