Lieut. Col. Milton L. Acuff, of Algood, who is serving with the Third Army in France, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal. The following quotation is taken from the citation accompanying the medal: "Lt. Col. Acuff continuously performed the command functions of a Field Artillery Battalion Commander in such an outstanding manner as to masterially aid his firing batteries in accomplishing their mission in combat. Lt. Col. Adcuff has continually exposed himself to enemy fire. His courage, initiative and leadership inspired his officers and men and reflects crdit to the military service.

NASHVILLE Funeral services for Ret. Col. Milton L. Acuff, 76, who died at his Nashville home Sunday, Nov. 23, 1980, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m., in the Broadway chapel of the Roesch Patton Dorris and Charlton Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at the Algood chapel of the Hooper & Huddleston Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday with burial following with full military honors at 2 p.m. in the Algood Cemetery. Thomas I. Cook and the Rev. Gordon Meadors will officiate at the services in Nashville.
Col. Acuff served in the US Army for 33 years, including World War Two and the Korean War, before his retirement. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with two open clusters; the Croix de Guerre with the Pal Leaf, a WWII Victory Medal; an Army of Occupation in Germany, EAME Campaign Medal; a National Defense Service Medal; an Army Commendation Medal, and an Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
While serving in Europe in WWII, he commanded the 273rd Artillery Ballation.
He resided at 709 Prescott Court in Nashville.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearle Cornwell Acuff, of Nashville; two daughters, Ann and Cathy Acuff; one son, Maj. Milton L. Acuff Jr.; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Fox; three brothers, John E. Acuff Jr. and Jasper and Leslie Acuff; and four grandchildren.
