Charlotte Realtor and Cotton Expert Is Dead; Burial at Elmwood.
Funeral services for R.O. Alexander, 62, prominent Charlotte citizen who died at his home 303 Park avenue, Saturday morning, will be held at the residence this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.
Mr. Alexander died after a period of bad health extending over a number of years. Death was the result of a heart attack.
The services will be conducted by Dr. Albert Sydney Johnson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment will be at Elmwood cemetery.
E.E. Jones, Dr. James W. Gibbon, J.W. Thomson, C.O. Kuester, W.B. Klugh, Dr. Thomas D. Sparrow, George M. Rose, and Alexander Smith will act as pallbearers.
Mr. Alexander is survived by his widow, who before marriage was Miss May Herndon of Shreveport, La., seven daughters, Mrs. Torrence E. Hemby, Mrs. McAlister Carson, Mrs. Wardlaw P. Thomson, and Misses Naomi, Ruth, Penelope and Martha Alexander, all of Charlotte; and three sons, Robert O. Alexander, Jr., of West Palm Beach, Fla., Herndon Alexander, of Smithfield, and John McKnitt Alexander, of Charlotte.
COTTON EXPERT.
Mr. Alexander had been a citizen of Charlotte for 25 years. During that period he was engaged in the cotton business and was regarded as one of the best authorities on staple cotton in the state.
Before coming to Charlotte he had lived in Monroe, La., and was engaged in the cotton business while living in that city.
After retiring from active participation in the cotton business about six years ago, on account of bad health, Mr. Alexander devoted most of his time to his large real estate holdings at Black Mountain.
Mr. Alexander was the promoter of the Presbyterian Assembly grounds at Montreat, Black Mountain, and was largely responsible for the development of that place, at which Presbyterians of the south assemble annually.
