COTTON EXPERT.
Mr. Alexander had been a citizen of Charlotte for 25 years. During that period he was engaged in the cotton business and was regarded as one of the best authorities on staple cotton in the state.

Before coming to Charlotte he had lived in Monroe, La., and was engaged in the cotton business while living in that city.

After retiring from active participation in the cotton business about six years ago, on account of bad health, Mr. Alexander devoted most of his time to his large real estate holdings at Black Mountain.

Mr. Alexander was the promoter of the Presbyterian Assembly grounds at Montreat, Black Mountain, and was largely responsible for the development of that place, at which Presbyterians of the south assemble annually.
