Samuel P. Watson, born Morgan county, Illinois, son of Jonathan Watson (1804-?). He married Sept 14, 1860 in Morgan county, Illinois to Rebecca Ann Simms. Civil War service was in 114th Regt, Illinois Infantry, company B. His service record of Aug 11, 1862, age 24, living at Sangamon county, Illinois, married farmer, 5'9" tall, brown hair and blue eyes. He mustered in service Sept 18, 1862 at Camp Butler, Illinois. He mustered out of service Aug 3, 1865 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Samuel P. & Rebecca Ann had children: Welsey H, Elizabeth Melissa Watson Trout; Rebecca Jane, Nancy B,and Ginnie B. Minor. They lived 1870 in Greenfield, Dade county, MO; in 1880 in Leroy, Barton county, MO; in 1900 in Jasper, Jasper county, MO; in 1910 in Fort Scott, Bourbon county, Kansas; and in 1920 in St James Federal Soldier Home in Phelps county, Missouri.
