Randy married the love of his life, Marlyn Passey, on Aug. 7, 1964, in the Logan LDS Temple. Marlyn later passed away in 1989 after fighting a battle with a brain tumor. He lost his best friend. In this union they were blessed with three children.
Randy loved the Bear Lake Valley where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling and snowmobiling. He loved to play softball and was in the MDA Tournaments. He was an avid trapshooter and had a passion for playing poker. Along with many awards and trophies won trapshooting with his wife they also were in a bowling league. Randy often helped his brother Dennis and his nephews with the family farm, and he also managed the local VFW Club No. 3884 for many years during which time he gained many, many lifetime friends and where he considered the club his second family.
Randy adored all of his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends. He loved to travel, and was fortunate enough to go to Mazatlan, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Seattle, and the Oregon and Washington coasts, but he would always say, "Bear Lake is the most beautiful place on Earth," and he was very proud of this valley.
Randy is survived by three children and their spouses, Rayelynne (Clair) Kunz of Bern, Idaho, Jeff (Joy) Carlsen of Spokane, Washington, and Wess (Minda) Carlsen of Sharon, Idaho; eight grandchildren, Kelly (Tiffany) Kunz of Montpelier, Levi, Cheyenne and Marlyn Carlsen of Spokane, and Dakota, Zavin, Colton and SaBen Carlsen of Sharon, Idaho. He is also survived by two brothers, Dennis (Edyth) Carlsen of Providence, Utah, and Garth (Elaine) Carlsen of Paris, Idaho; two sisters-in-law, Judy (Terry) Hymas of Montpelier, and Susan (Lynn) Hymas of Henderson, Nevada; and a brother-in-law, Randy (Vicki) Passey, of Utah; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an uncle, Charlie Carlsen; one sister, Berl Pugmire; and a brother, Roger Carlsen.
