A Loving One From
Us Is Gone. A Voice We
Loved Is Still. A Place
Is Vacant In Our Home
That Never Can Be
Filled.

Mr. J. W. Doss was born August 17, 1854, in Shelby Co., AL, and died April 5, 1934. In 1877, he moved from AL to MS where he lived until 1914, when he came to TN. About two years before (ca 1932) he moved to Marks, MS, where he lived until four weeks ago. He and his wife moved back to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. H. M. Johnson near Huntingdon.

He was the son of James and Elizabeth Thanes Doss, and his father was a Methodist minister. He married Martha A. R. Oglesby in 1875. They had seven children, two of which preceded him in death. The five living are: Grover Doss of Humboldt; George Doss of Marks, MS; Mrs. Asa Plunk of Selmer; Mrs. Dixie Allen of Humboldt; and Mrs. H. M. Johnson of Huntingdon. Six sisters and five brothers (not named) preceded him in death, except one -- Mrs. Emma Hutson of Lafayette Springs, MS.

He was buried in Sellers Cemetery.
