Jesse Neece, son of Peter and Elizabeth Casebolt Knees, was born June 19, 1792, in the state of Tennessee, but grew to manhood at Richmond, Madison Co., Kentucky. He came to Illinois in 1830, locating in Sangamon County (in that part which is now Logan County). On April 2, 1831, he moved to McDonough Co. locating two miles south of Colchester. When quite young, he was bound out to a tailor, but the man died and he afterward stayed in a Drug Store and studied medicine with an old German doctor in Richmond, Kentucky. He was twice married. His first wife, Mary Deadman Maupin who was born April 9, 1793 and died January 3, 1838, and was buried in the Neece Cemetary, two miles south of Colchester, IL. They were the parents of 9 children. Jesse Neece was the first Justice of the Peace in Chalmers Township, McDonough County, Illinois. He was married the second time to Mariah Hardin, a native of Washington County, Kentucky on September 28, 1838. She was born March 21, 1806 and passed away in Colchester February 24, 1910, being 100 years, 11 months and 3 days of age. They were the parents of four children. Jesse Neece passed away December 14, 1869 and was buried in the Neece Cemetary south of Colchester, said cemetary being located on land owned by Mr. Neece. He was a soldier in the Mormon War of 1846 and was successful in tailoring, medicine and farming.
