This Unit was recruited from the 8th district with many men from Fountain, Carroll, and Warren counties; it was organized March 9, 1865 at Indianapolis, Indiana, with strength of 1,082 men. It left Indiana for Harper's Ferry, West Virginia on March 13 1865. The regiment saw duty at Charleston, West Virginia, Winchester, and Stevenson's Depot, remaining there until June 27. It then proceeded to Jordan's Springs, Virginia, and remained there until it was mustered out on August 5, 1865.
