Miao protested when communist bandits were parading a young missionary couple, John and Betty Stam, through the streets to their deaths. When Miao continued to object, his house was searched and a bible was found and Miao was sentenced to death as well. When John objected to the killing of Miao, John was beheaded, Miao and Betty following in death shortly.
