She was born May 22, 1921 in McDonough, the daughter of Frank and Florence Sherwood Mead.
Mrs. Allen was formerly employed with the Cortland County Home Health Service for several years and had been an area resident all her life.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde H. Allen of Cortland; two sons, Michael Allen of Cortland, Lawrence Allen of Truxton; a daughter, Mrs. James (Shirley) Doty of Groton; a foster son, Stanley Root of Syracuse, two brothers, Tyler Mead of Norwich, Robert Mead of Syracuse; a half-brother Richard Hackett, of Pitcher; four sisters, Mrs. Artamese Parker of Cortland, Mrs. Helen St. Dennis and Mrs. Juanita Payson, both of Syracuse, and Mrs. Harriett Hinckley of Groton; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Rose Allen of Marathon, several grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home with pastor Duane Crossman officiating. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home,.
