Frank E. Burt, 520 N. McKinley Ave., retired Ball Brothers sales executive, died Sunday afternoon at Ball Memorial Hospital following a weeks' illness. A member of Muncie Lodge 433, F&AM, for 65 years, Mr. Burt served the lodge as worshipful master in 1903 and was its oldest past master. He also has served the lodge as Junior deacon.
In 1928, the Edmund Burke Ball chapter of DeMolay was formed with Burt as "chapter dad." in 1931, Burt was appointed as a deputy of the grand council of the Order of DeMolay and served 15 years as state DeMolay "dad." He was named as a member of the Grand Council in 1933.
Mr. Burt also is a past master of Muncie Council 16, R&SM, and holds membership in all other Masonic bodies. He is a recipient of the Frank Land medal, given by the founder of DeMolay to Masons active in the youth group's work. He was honored at "Dad Burt Night" by Muncie Lodge 433 in April of this year.
Mr. Burt started with Ball Brothers as an office boy in 1895. He later advanced to clerk, bookkeeper, salesman, and plant manager. When he retired in 1950 after 55 years' service, he was sales manager of consumer products.
A native and lifelong resident of Muncie, he was a son of the late Theo and Carrie (Andrews) Burt. He was a graduate of Muncie High School. After his retirement in 1950, he enrolled as a special student at Ball State College and completed four years' of studies, taking full student loads each year.
Mr. Burt was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and an elder of the church.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie Smith Burt, to whom he had been married 42 years; two nieces, Mrs. John Ireland, Anderson, and Mrs. George Barnard, Muncie; a nephew, Joseph Burt, Muncie; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Lewis W. Gishler, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at Meeks Mortuary after 3 p.m. Monday and until noon Tuesday.
