RITES PENDING
Funeral arrangements were pending at Carpenter Funeral Home today for Leo Merrell, 52, who died this morning at a local hospital after a long illness. He was a salesman for Industrial Electric.
Merrell lived at 605 N. Second St., and was a member of Hillcrest Methodist Church. He was a 30-year resident of Carlsbad.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnye; three sons, Max, Spotswood, N.J., and Robert and Mike, both of Carlsbad; two brothers, Joe Merrell, Truth or Consequences, and Ted, Enid, Okla.; a sister, Mrs. W.C. Hall, Fort Worth, Tex., his mother, Mrs. Lemma Merrell, Forth Worth; and two grandchildren.
Members of the family asked that "in lieu" of so many flowers, those who desire may contribute to a Hillcrest Methodist Church Memorial fund.

Funeral services for Walter Leo Merrell, 52, who died Friday in a Carlsbad hospital, will be conducted by Rev. R.A. English of Hillcrest Methodist Church at 2 p.m. today in Carpenter Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will be in Carlsbad Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Coleman, Allen Grimsley, T.P. Hansen, R.E. Tarleton, Louis Long and Buddy Johnson. Friends are to consider themselves honorary pallbearers.
