William R. Kermen, 85, Forest Ranch, California, died Friday, July 22, 1994 at a hospital in Chico, California. A native of Washington, he was born August 22, 1908, a son of William Frederick Kermen and Mary Ann (Gruber) Kermen.
He attended school in Cle Elum, Washington and graduated from Cle Elum High School in 1928. In 1934 he graduated from the Washington State University Veterinary School at Pullman.
"Doc", as he was known, married Virginia Chichirillo in Los Angeles in 1937.
During World War II he served as a major in the Veterinary Corps, inspecting meat for the Allied Forces in Australia. He retired from the Army Reserve as a colonel in 1968.
In 1946, he moved to Chico, Calif. where he was employed by the state Bureau of Meat Inspection. He retired in 1975.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Raymond.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Virginia, Forest Ranch; a daughter, Mary Ann Stoffel, Hemet, Calif.; two sons, Michael of Cottonwood, Ariz. and Robert of Yreka, Calif; two brothers, Frederick "Fritz" Kermen of Cle Elum, Washington and Clarence of South Cle Elum, Washington; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico. Burial followed at the Veterans Court of Honor at Glen Oakes Memorial Park, also in Chico.
