There is some consternation of just how did 20 year old Hiram Linder, a non-Cherokee b. north of the Tennessee-Virginia border, meet his future wife in southeast Tennessee. The only likely explanation is that as a young man Hiram either began trading with the Cherokee or was a laborer employed by Barbara's father, grandfather or one of her uncles.
