Hiram Linder, 2nd child and 2nd s. of John Linder and Myzorah Gillenwaters, b. circa 1810 at Washington County, VA. He d. Mar. 2, 1845 in the Delaware District of the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, now largely Delaware County, OK.

On Dec. 23, 1830 at the now extinct town of Columbus formerly in southern McMinn but now in northern Polk County, TN, Hiram m. Barbara Hildebrand, eldest mixed-blood Cherokee child of Peter Hildebrand and Elizabeth Harlan. She was b. Apr. 10, 1809 near the confluence of Conasauga Creek and the Hiawasse River in the Cherokee Nation East, now Polk County, Tennessee. She d. Mar. 1, 1846 in the Delaware District of the Cherokee Nation in Indian Territory.

There is some consternation of just how did 20 year old Hiram Linder, a non-Cherokee b. north of the Tennessee-Virginia border, meet his future wife in southeast Tennessee. The only likely explanation is that as a young man Hiram either began trading with the Cherokee or was a laborer employed by Barbara's father, grandfather or one of her uncles. Whatever the truth was, Hiram and Barbara had seven known children b. in present-day Tennessee, the first four prob. near Okoa Creek in present-day Polk County, TN:

• i. Nancy Eveline Linder, b. Nov. 7, 1831 and was living in June 1900. She had four husbands but no known children.

• ii. Malderine Elizabeth Linder, b. Mar. 17, 1833, d. Nov. 12, 1852 at Stillwell in the Flint District of the Cherokee Nation, Indian Terr., now Adair County, OK; m. the Cherokee George Washington Adair, s. of Andrew Adair and Sarah Copeland, b. Jan. 31, 1821 at the Cherokee Nation East at present-day Georgia. He d. at Stillwell in the Flint District Sept. 10, 1853. They are both interred at the Adair Family Cemetery at Stillwell, OK. They had no known children.

• iii. Emory Ogden Linder, b. Oct. 30, 1834, d. Nov. 3, 1891 at Notchietown in the Sequoyah District of the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, now Sequoyah County, OK; m. July 25, 1859 at Cherokee Indian Terr., the Cherokee Martha Ann Vann, dau. of Edward Vann and Mary Watts, b. Aug. 30, 1836. She d. July 25, 1917. Seven children of the family.

• iv. John Ross Linder, b. Nov. 10, 1836, d. Feb. 25, 1910 at Hulbert, OK; he m. 1) his 1st cousin Anna "Annie" Hildebrand, dau. of Lewis W. Hildebrand and Lucy Ratliff; m. 2) the non-Cherokee Nancy Ann "Nannie" Ivey, dau. of David Ivey and Elizabeth Merrill; and m. 3) Eliza Keziah "Kizzie" Pennel, a twin dau. of John Pennel. Thirteen children by his three wives. His only child by 2nd wife Nannie Ivey was Richard Thomas Linder, b. Nov. 29, 1876.

• v. Ann Eliza Linder, b. Dec. 16, 1838 in Illinois along the Cherokee Trail of Tears while her parents were being moved from Tennessee to the Cherokee Indian Territory. Benge, s. of John Benge and Quatsie Conrad, who d. as a Capt. in the Confederate forces during the American Civil War; m. 2) in 1864, William H. Hendricks.
