Jack Willaford Alexander, beloved husband, wonderful father, loving grandfather and proud great-grandfather peacefully went to heaven on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the age of 92.
He will be remembered for his kind spirit and being a true gentleman. Jack was full of energy and enthusiasm for life. His passion for living was demonstrated as he encouraged his family to enjoy all life had to offer. He was loved by all who knew him and no words can describe how greatly he will be missed.
Jack was born and raised in Lamesa where he learned to love and appreciate everything West Texas had to offer in its wide open skies, beautiful sunsets, and endless possibilities. He served our country as an officer in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. For 40 years he practiced Dentistry in his beloved Lamesa. He loved his work and enjoyed the friendship of his patients.
He was a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church where in later years he and his wife, Kay, built the memorial garden for the church. Jack was an active Rotarian while living in Lamesa. He was a 62 year member of the Masons. He belonged to Lamesa Lodge 909 where he was a Scottish Rite Mason, a York Rite Mason and a Shriner.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Kay. Their enduring love and marriage of 65 years was an inspiration to all their family. The first time Jack saw Kay, he told her he was going to marry her. From that moment on, he never stopped loving her! Each and every day they "toasted life" and said "I love you." They traveled the world over several times and were always looking for the next great place to explore. They spent many years in Northern California enjoying the wild wet winters and then their summers at the beloved Ruidoso, New Mexico cabin, "The Taj."
Their focus was always on being with their daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jack continually stated to each of his children, "Honey, you girls are your Mother's and my whole life."
Jack is survived by his three daughters, Debby Alexander and husband, Stewart Norman, of Austin, Texas, Jacque Kessinger and husband, Chuck Kessinger, of Soquel, California, and Amanda Livingston and husband, Timothy Bloyd, of Fort Worth, Texas. Jack and Kay were extremely proud of their grandchildren, Noah, Amanda, Zachary, Culley, Kerry, M'Kenzi, Kalli, Clayton, and their nine precious great-grandchildren.
As life began to come to a close for Jack, he continually reminded his daughters, "Honey, don't be sad for us, your Mom and I have had a wonderful life!" And they did!!!
A memorial will be held at a later date in California. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lamesa.
