Alexander McCorkle was born in 1723 in Northern Ireland, a son of William McCorkle, he came to America with his parents and siblings about 1729, arriving in Philadelphia. Later settled on the "Irish Tract" of Benjamin Borden's 1739 grant of land in Augusta Co., Virginia, where he purchased 300 acres in 1761.
