Bert Ray Allen was born in Yeager, Oklahoma on December 16, 1927 to Betty and Jim Allen. He grew up in the Wewoka area. At 17, he spent a year in the Coast Guard. After receiving an honorable discharge, he came back to Wewoka and graduated from high school in 1947. He joined the United States Army and was in the 45th Field Artillery Division where he was the assistant to the captain of division at the rank of sergeant.

In 1949, he married Marion Louise Hiles of Seminole and they made their home in Wewoka. The 45th was mobilized during the Korean War and Bert's unit was sent to Camp Polk, Louisiana. After three months, he was sent to school in Roanoke, Virginia, then on to adjutant general school at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana where he was promoted to master sergeant. He was then shipped to Japan. His enlistment was up and he took an honorable discharge and returned to Wewoka.

He worked for Oklahoma Clothing Manufacturing until he was hired by Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He went to school at night at Tulsa University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for Phillips in the Treasury Department for 32 years, rising from clerk to a division manager.

During this time, Bert and Marion were blessed with a daughter, Cheryl Ann, and a son, Wesley Thomas. Bert served as a deacon in the Baptist church and served with pride. He came to know his Lord Jesus as his Savior at the age of 17. He loved wood working, restoring old pickups, motorcycles, and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion; his daughter Cheryl and her fiancé Greg Ratliff; his son Wesley and his wife Diana; and his younger sister Nina. His pride in his eight grandchildren knew no bounds: Justin, Jacob, Jordan and Mikaela Allen; and Mary, Amy, Hank and Sally Ulmer. He was further blessed by grand-daughters-in-law Christin and Erin and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Adalynn Allen. Bert was preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren Luke and Jennifer. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Yukon Cemetery in Yukon. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Chisholm Heights Baptist Church in Mustang.
