The Commemorative Biographical Encyclopedia of Dauphin County, Pa., 1896, by RUNK & COMPANY, Publishers, pg. 1138, notes that Washington Sheetz "married Mary E., of Wayne Twp., in the fall of 1875". She was Washington Sheetz's first wife, but died 8 years after her marriage from consumption at age 29 years. According to family accounts Mary wished to return "HOME" to die from this illness. A large oval framed portrait exists on Mary, and a treasured heirloom family album holds several smaller portraits along with many of her family members.
