McKinley was the second child of Frank and Amy. His siblings were Bessie, Jessie, Clarence, George, Mayne, and Charley. In 1918, his mother died and his father later that year married Mary Ethel (Huggett) Mero. Mary had a daughter, Alice Mero, who was ten years old at the time. Alice Mero married George Dewey Sanford in 1942.
McKinley married Luella Rutherford, and together they had five children: Harriet, Ethel, Gwendolyn, Ross, and Bob. Luella passed away in 1947, and sometime after that McKinley married Alberta (Lund) Trowbridge, who had seven children of her own: Delores, Merle, Alvina, Roger, James, Lois, and one other son.
(See the FAG record of Frank Otis Town for the story of Alberta's first husband, Carl Trowbridge.)
McKinley died December 1, 1976, in Pendleton, Oregon, where he and Alberta had lived for many years. They are both buried in the Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
