David R. "Butch" Ball, 59, of Batavia, and formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Mercy Anderson Hospital, Cincinnati.

He was born in Bellefontaine on Nov. 29, 1949, a son of the late Marion and Francis Ball.

On Dec. 22, 1978, he married the former Shirley Ann Cooper and she survives, along with four sons, Troy (Cheri) Ball of Englewood, Cory (Theresa) Ball of Clayton and Daniel (Nicki) Ball and Kevin (Mary) Ball, both of Hamilton; one daughter, Terri (Greg) Prewitt of Williamsburg, Ky.; seven grandchildren, C.J., Katie, Cameron, Vanessa, Logan, Isabel and Olivia; six brothers, Mike (Wanda) Ball, Clyde Ball, Sidney (Debbie) Ball, John (Christy) Ball and Darin (Roberta) Ball, all of Bellefontaine, and Fred Ball of Rushsylvania; three sisters, Geneva Ball and Sharon Ball, both of Bellefontaine, and Virginia Herne of Rushsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

A 1968 graduate of Bellefontaine High School, he was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He retired from Batavia Ford Motor Company as a tool maker in November 2008.

Pastor Calvin Price of Tri-City Church of God officiates a funeral at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Walker Funeral Home, Mt. Healthy. Burial is in Graceland Memorial Gardens.
