July 7, 2007 ECHO - Acavan A. "Ace" Clingenpeel, a resident of Echo, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his home. He was 73. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.

Mr. Clingenpeel was born Jan. 26, 1934, to Asa A. and Minnie Hawkins Clingenpeel in Mapleton, Iowa. He attended schools in Iowa, and later moved with his family to the Sandy area where he graduated from high school. While in high school he was very active in sports. After high school, he worked at a dairy farm in the Troutdale area and later at a Portland area hospital. He also worked for the Good Will Industries in the Portland area for many years. He later became disabled and moved to Echo in 1997 to be with his sister.

He greatly enjoyed walking, and as he walked he liked to find cans and bottles as well as finding money on the ground. He liked people and smiling and waving at them on his walks.

He is survived by sister Stella Enright Queen of Echo; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends in the Pendleton and Echo areas.

He was preceded in his death by his parents; three sisters; and brother, George, who died in 2002.
