Leona Bennett Besendorfer, 91, passed away peacefully of causes incident to age, on August 25, 1997, in Logan, Utah.

Born to William Hyrum and Elizabeth Bushnell Bennett, October 11, 1905 in Meadow, Utah. Married Nephi Besendorfer, November 21, 1928 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died August 24, 1944.

Our dear mother loved and nourished her children, Barbara, Bill, Maradene and Valerie. She loved her home at 981 East 3300 South in Salt Lake City which she lived in for 51 years.

She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served willingly in many callings, including Stake Board MIA and Counselor in the Ward MIA., and visiting teacher for many years. She was a member of the Mendon Camp of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She had been an active member of the Republican Party, serving as Registrar and Election Judge. She was a valiant employee of Harman's Cafe for many years, and following her retirement there, she was a Foster Grandparent in Special

Education for twenty years with the Granite School District retiring at the age of 84, in 1988.

She was a very talented person, played the piano, organ, orator of poetry, sharing special poems at family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and others. She was a wonderful, creative mother in raising four children. She met each trial and tribulation with enormous strength and courage. She was a resourceful, hard-working woman, whose greatest pleasure and joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren, and others and was an example to all who knew her.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Jensen (Neale), Centerville, UT; Maradene Heap (Donald), Bountiful, UT; Valerie Larsen (Sydney), Mendon, UT; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grand children and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Vaun (Phyllis) Bennett, Delta, UT., two sister-in-laws, Ella B. Grass and Lena Besendorfer , Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nephi; son, William N.; parents; three brothers, William Noble, Sterling and Howard, and three sisters, Geneva B. Black, Arvilla B. Ashby, and Edna B. Duncan.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 12 noon, August 28 Family and friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah from 7 to 8:30 pm Wednesday, August 27, 1997, and one hour prior to services at the Centerville Canyon Ward, 160 So. 300 East, Centerville, Utah. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
