Mary Snipes Davis was born to Absalom Reames Snipes & Luna Vista Dunn Snipes. She was the granddaughter of James Fayette Dunn & Mary Josephine Kennedy Dunn and Brittian Fletcher Snipes & Susan Cora Watkins Snipes.

She was born in a half-dugout near Mangum, Greer County, Oklahoma (at the time Indian Territory) in 1900. Her parents, the Absolam Reams Snipes and her Dunn grandparents moved to Gaines County, Texas in 1905 and then to Andrews County, Texas in 1908 by covered wagon.

She married Jesse Leo Davis on May 10, 1924 in Altus, Oklahoma.
