Joseph Vernon Bullard of the 200 block of Tazewell Ave. in Cape Charles and formerly of Norfolk passed away Sept. 19, 2003, one day short of his 96th birthday.
Mr. Bullard was a native of South Carolina and the son of the late Mac and Corina Bullard. He was the retired owner of Bullard Roofing Company which served the Tidewater area for more than 60 years. He was a member of Colonial Heights Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Lottie R. Bullard; daughter, Paulette Mason of Portsmouth; three stepdaughters, Sandra Richardson of Nassawadox, Va., Pamela Jo Childress of Birdsnest, Va. and Valarie C. Thornes of Cape Charles, Va.; two stepsons, Elton Q. Thornes of Parksley, Va. and Keith E. Thornes of Portsmouth; and a sister, Margarite Taylor of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Fred Bates officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.
