In Memoriam.....Just at the break of day on July 4th 1916, there passed from time to eternity the soul of Elender James Mason, the aged wife of G. W. Mason of Cold Springs, MO.
"Aunt Nellie", as she was called was born Nov. 17, 1847, being 68 years 7 months and 17 days old at the time of her death, which was caused by tuberculosis. She became a christian at the age of 23 was married to Geo. W. Mason on April 8, 1866. Eleven children, 5 boys and 6 girls were born to this union, 7 of whom survived her, they are: Henry and Will and Mrs. Minerva Mallerne of Cold Springs, Geo. and Windsor of Okla., Mrs. Lizzie Stowe of Kingman, Arizona, and Mrs. Frances Sharpton of Dewey, Okla. She was buried on July 5 at the New Hope graveyard below Tedrick.
Funeral services were conducted by her Sister Rebekahs of Mystic Lodge No. 628 of Brushy Knob, of which the deceased was a charter member. The sermon was delivered by her lodge Brother Rev. McCall of the Baptist church, who spoke feelingly on the text "She hath done what she could." A host of friends were gathered to pay their last respects to her and witness the beautiful and impressive service of the Rebekah order.
And so Good-By! good-by! thou faithful soul!
From toil and trouble thou hast earned release,
Thy weary feet are resting at the goal,
The pain of living ended in God's peace.
