Pete M. Christensen
1930 ~ 2011
Pete M. Christensen passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at home following a long illness.
He was born October 7, 1930 to Polly Bland Ewell and James Christian Christensen in Goshen, Utah.
He married his high school sweetheart Ruthella Thomas in 1947; their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.
They are the parents of six children and grandparents of twenty-eight.
Pete was raised in Goshen and attended Payson schools.
As a youth, he enjoyed boxing, earning the nickname "Pistol Pete."
Pete and Ruthella moved to Provo in 1951 where they raised their family. He worked at Geneva Steel for 36 years. He enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and golf.
His children and grandchildren have fond memories of these activities with Pete. He loved the BYU Cougars and was a lifetime New York Yankees fan.
Pete was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served with dedication throughout his lifetime. He served as bishop of the Provo 25th Ward. He and Ruthella later served missions in Columbus, Ohio; Provo Missionary Training Center; Palmyra, New York Temple; and LDS Employment Center.
Pete is survived by his wife, Ruthella; his children Sandra (Kent) Johnston, Michael (Karma) Christensen, Susan (Raymond) Evans, Bruce (Leslie) Christensen, Garth (Jill) Christensen, and Wendy Garrett; 28 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Monday, February 21 from 6-8 pm at the LDS Church at 1120 N. 850 W. in Provo, with a funeral service the next day at 11 am at the same location.
