Charles Daniel Chittum, 79, of 3611 Garden City Blvd, died early Wednesday in a Roanoke hospital.

He was retired in 1945 after 25 years of service with American Viscose Corp.

Surviving are his widow Mrs. Maggie Chittum, two sons and four daughters: Clarence E. Chittum, C. Lewis Chittum and Mrs. Pauline Edwards, Roanoke; Mrs. Frank Tyree, Roanoke County; Mrs. Virgie Haley and Mrs. Lucille Robertson, Roanoke; a sister, Mrs. J. H. Pollard, Roanoke, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be conducted at Garden City Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. D. N. McGrady and the Rev. L. C. Hall. Interment will be in Sherwood. The body will be removed from the residence to the church at 10 a.m.
