Richard E. Luehrs, 72, of 519 12th St., Kiel, died Monday afternoon, July 17, 1995 at Froedtert Lutheran Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee, of complications following surgery.

He was born June 6, 1923 in New Holstein, son of Viola Guetzloe Luehrs and the late Edward Luehrs.

He was a 1941 graduate of New Holstein High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the European Theatre in the Battle of the Bulge.

On June 29, 1946, he married the former Rosemary Kelm in New Holstein. She died on July 31, 1979. On Sept. 3, 1983, he married the former Luella DeTroye Krebsbach at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel. He was employed at the formers Arps Corp. in New Holstein, as a traffic manager for 44 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 124 in New Holstein and served on the Calumet Homestead Auxiliary Board. He also was a Cub Scout Leader in New Holstein for many years and a member of Senior Bowling League in New Holstein.

Survivors include his wife, Luella; his mother, Viola Luehrs, a resident of the Calumet Homestead in New Holstein; three sons, John (Patricia) Luehrs, Arlington, Va.; Paul (Linnae) Luehrs, Los Angeles, Calif.; William (Lynne) Luehrs, Arlington Heights, Ill.; two step-daughters, Debra Kaiser, Greenfield, Wis. and Kaye (Richard) Kammerer, Sheboygan; two grand-daughters, Caroline Bell-Luehrs and Jacqueline Luehrs; one grandson, Garrett Luehrs; two step-granddaughters, Angella and Melissa Kaiser; two step-grandsons, Brett and Eric Kammerer.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 20, 1995 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. Cletus LaMere officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, New Holstein, at 11:30 a.m., Friday, with full military rites conducted by the New Holstein American Legion. Friends may call at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, from 3 p.m., Thursday, until the time of services.

A memorial has been established for the National Asthma Foundation.
