William was a son of James H. Wilkinson, b. 1798 in Marlborough, Orangeburg Dist. SC; d. Feb 1863 in Bulloch Co., GA; and Rebecca WISE, b. 1796 Beaufort District, SC; d. 1855 in Georgia. James and Rebecca are both buried in the Brewton Cemetery, Hagan, Evans Co., GA; Sect. D1. James Find A Grave #38801596; and Rebecca Find A Grave #55842291. Rebecca and James were married 09 Mar 1823 in Statesboro, Bulloch Co., GA; and had 7 children.

William Riley was married to Mary EASTERLING Wilkerson, b. 30 Aug 1828. Their children, James Longstreet Wilkinson and Rachel Wilkinson are buried in this section of the cemetery as well. She is buried as Mary Wilkerson.

Note: Rebecca was married first to Roy Nobel Jones (04 Aug 1809 in Bulloch Co., GA and bore him 6 children.

William Riley Wilkinson married his first wife, Emaline Moore, on 5 June 1850 in Chatham County. They are shown in the 1860 census with children: Malissie, Maranda, Colonial, Charlton and Marietta.

Emaline evidently died in 1860 or 1861.

It affords me pleasure to comply with your request for what information
I have regarding your grandfather WILLIAM R. WILKINSON'S war record. This
Is the way I have it.

WILLIAM R. WILKINSON, Corporal, Company D, 6lst Regiment Georgia Infantry,
enlisted September 9, 1861, in Capt. Henry Tillman's Company (B), at Eden
Station (No. 2), Georgia, on the Central Railroad; resigned as 2nd Corporal
May 19, 1862 and transferred to Company K, June 1, 1862; was wounded in
Battle of SECOND MANASSAS, Virginia, August 28, 1862; was again wounded,
In the abdomen, during the battle of FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia, December 13,
1862 and admitted to Chimborazo Hospital No. 2, Richmond, Virginia, December
16, 1862 with pneumonia; was furloughed for 60 days from February 4, 1863;
was wounded in right thigh by Minie ball during the WILDERNESS-SPOTTSYLVANIA
CAMPAIGN and admitted to Jackson Hospital, Richmond, May 9, 1864; was cap-
tured near Petersburg, Virginia, March 25, 1865 and sent to military
prison at Point Lookout, Maryland, where he was released June 21, 1865.

His father was James WILKINSON (1798-1863), representative from Bulloch
County in the Georgia Legislature, 1834-1838. His mother was Rebecca WISE;
Daughter of WILLIAM AND MARGARET WISE. Rebecca was first married to BERRY
JONES, son of Bridger and Rachel JONES, by whom she had the following
Children:
1. Margaret (Peggy) Jones (born June 22, 1810), married David Williams.
2. Jane (Jincy) Jones (born Oct. 2, 1811)
3. Mary (Polly) Jones (born Apr 7, 1813), married Adam Jones.
4. Bridger Jones (born Jan 1, 1815), married (1) Susan Denmark.
5. Rachel Jones (born Oct 2, 1816), married Dr. Redding Denmark.
6. Eliza Jones
7. John Jones, married Elizabeth Wright of Bulloch County.

I am sure that you know the story as far as the children of James and
Rebecca Wise (Jones) Wilkinson: James H., Jr.; Henry; William R; Nancy;
and Lavinia (Venie) Wilkinson.

Your great-great-grandfather WILLIAM WISE was a Revolutionary soldier.
As a planter of old Shrewsbury County (now Hampton), South Carolina, he and
his wife Margaret sold on July 27, 1789 to Blanchard Colding, 100 acres in
Winton (now Allendale) County near the Savannah River. He moved to Screven
County, later Bulloch, and lived about five or six miles east of Statesboro,
on Mill Creek. I have a copy of his will, and will be glad to send you a
copy if you want.
