Rosada Dudgeon Richards
Funeral and burial services for Rosada D. Richards were held Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat.
Also services were held Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Pensacola, Florida for Capt. and Mrs. Richards.
Rosada was born near Lawton, the daughter of the late Floyd and Katie Dudgeon and died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Pensacola, Florida.
She grew up on a farm near Carnegie. She was a student at Silver Moon, Anchor and Alfalfa schools and graduated from high school in Burns Flat in May of 1940. She attended junior college at Carnegie and a business college in Clinton, where she was a secretary at the district office of the Soil Conservation Services, Department of Agriculture.
She began playing the piano at the age of 13, and especially enjoyed gospel music. Her father taught singing, and she accompanied him on the piano at schools and at their church. Her parents sang with gospel quartets for several years. Rosada was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
"Rose" and Jack Richards were married in Clinton on February 4, 1944 and had two children, Vickie Lee Munday and Patricia Ruth Richards. From Clinton, they traveled worldwide during her husband's career in the navy. They chose Pensacola as their retirement home, and lived there for over 35 years.
Rosada was active as a volunteer for numerous agencies in Pensacola, including the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society; two Pensacola musical groups that played at nursing and retirement homes; Council on Aging as an RSVP volunteer; and the Senior Follies. She received numerous awards, including the First Humanitarian Award, and the Young at Heart Award from the Pensacola Senior Follies. She also played piano during fellowship time after the Sunday services at the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel.
Surviving her are two daughters, Vickie and her husband, Art Munday of Fayetteville, Georgia and Patricia Richards of Pensacola; her brother Albert and wife Melba L. Dudgeon of Foss; two grandchildren, Rose E. Humphrey of Fayetteville, Georgia and William S. Munday of Newnan, Georgia; great grandson, mark R. Humphrey and great granddaughter Jennifer L. Humphrey. Also surviving are nephews and nieces on the matriarch side, Terry and Morris Dudgeon, Jackie McCuller, Donna Ownbey, and Nancy Arrington. Nephews and nieces on the patriarch side are Paul Richards, Doug Gregory, Don Richards, Dave Richards, Susan Gregory and Annie Pearson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Katie Pennington Dudgeon; her brother, Alphon Dudgeon; and her husband, Capt. John M. (Jack) Richards, USN (Ret).
He husband's Cremains will be placed with Rosada in her casket.
Burial was in the Carnegie Cemetery on Monday, July 19, 2004 under the direction of the Jack Loftiss Funeral Home in Cordell.
