Lesley was born and attended elementary schools in Rome, GA, before his parents moved to Huntsville, AL in 1955 where he attended public schools and graduated from Huntsville High School in 1963. Lesley attended Jacksonville State College for two years, before enlisting in the Marine 27 January 1966, at a Nashville Recruiting Office in TN.
Lesley arrived in Vietnam 3 September 1967 and was assigned to Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 13th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division and was attached as a Forward Observer to Delta Company, 1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment.
Lesley was directing a fire mission while at the Khe Sanh Combat Base during a hostile mortar attack at the base. He died as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds to the body from hostile mortar fire.
Survived by his parents, Euel and Gladys Ayers of 5404 Whitesburg Dr, Huntsville, AL and a sister; Sandra Ayers McKenzie also of Huntsville, AL.
His parents and his sister moved back to Rome, GA where Lesley' grandparents lived.
