Benjamin was the son of Benjamin Alexander and Elenor Crawford.
He was married to Mary Elizabeth Tippins, daughter of William Wayne Tippins and Mary Elizabeth Eason. They were married 21 May 1835 in Tattnall County, GA and had the following children, all believed to be born in Tattnall Co., GA.

Mary is buried in the Old Tippins Cemetery, Reidsville, Tattnall Co., GA as Mary E. S. Alexander, beloved wife of L. W. Alexander (#65799346).
2. Josiah Asbury Alexander, b. 1841, d. 03 Mar 1905 Reidsville, Tattnall Co., GA. Married in 1859 to Charlotte Elizabeth Brewton (also seen Bruton) daughter of Benjamin Brewton (#30495321) and Charlotte Matilda Bacon, (#30495350). Charlotte is buried in the Brewton Cemetery, Hagan, Evans Co., GA; Section H6 (#66605062) as Charlotte E. Bruton Alexander, wife of J. A. Alexander. They had three children: Benjamin Franklin Alexander, Jacob Alexander, and Josiah Asbury Alexander (Jr.).
After Charlotte's death in 1865, Josiah married Caroline Brewton in 1875. Caroline was a daughter of Samuel J. Brewton (# #46927522) and Mary Ann "Polly" Smith, (#30502633) both of whom are buried in the Brewton Cemetery, Hagan, Evans Co., GA; Section H6. Caroline Brewton Alexander is buried in the Mount Carmel Church Cemetery, Reidsville, Tattnall Co., GA; Section E, alongside her husband Josiah.
Caroline and Josiah had 4 children: Samuel J. Alexander, Bessie Mary Elizabeth Alexander (part of name may be a nickname), Charles B. and William L. Alexander.

5. Victoria Alexander, b. 1851; d. 1927, married to Leonard Jackson Cowart, Sr., and is buried in the Collins City Cemetery, Collins, Tattnall Co., GA; Sect.
