Susan S. Henderson passed away on February 15, 2011, at the age of 85. Born Susan Jane Stiehl on October 3, 1925, she is survived by her husband Dr. Harry M. Henderson Jr., daughter Margaret Kersey (Gary) and three sons: Dr. Harry M. Henderson III (Chris), William F. Henderson (Brenda) and Richard R. Henderson (Susan).

A devoted wife and loving mother, Susan was known affectionately as "Memo" to her adoring grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Kersey, Taylor and Blair Henderson, Briana (David) and Brittany Henderson, Daniel Henderson, and her great grandchild Ryley Cox-Kersey. She grew up in a number of exotic locales, including Venezuela and Aruba, and graduated from Fredericskburg High School in Texas.

She received her RN from Santa Rosa School of Nursing in San Antonio. She met Dr. Harry M. Henderson, US Army, and they were married in 1947.

Susan exemplified that combination of wisdom and compassion that is the unique domain of great women and the signature of a truly thoughtful and caring person. She was both a devout Catholic and a world-wise spirit, exhibiting a level of emotional intelligence that uplifted and inspired all around her. She loved to sing and was especially fond of the great classic musicals, "The Sound of Music" being her absolute favorite. Susie was a wonderful cook and gracious host who could delight and surprise with a masterpiece of French cuisine or the simplest homemade recipe.

Her most singular and amazing attribute, however, was her seemingly endless capacity to love and encourage those who were blessed by her sweet presence.

May she rest in peace in the arms of Our Lord; we love you.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony De Padua, 102 Lorenz, on Thursday, February 24th at 10:30AM.

Burial will be at Ft. Sam National cemetery on Friday, Feb. 25 at 10:45AM.
