Dorothy J. Johnson, 86, rural Thompson, ND, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the Warren Good Samaritan Nursing Center of Warren, MN, from complications of a stroke she suffered 9 days earlier.

Dorothy J. Amble was born July 19, 1923 in rural Thompson, ND. She was the last surviving of 14 children born to Lars and Gyro (Rike) Amble. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools near Thompson. She also attended Central High School in Grand Forks, ND.

Dorothy married Leif "Gumpy" Johnson on September 10, 1940 in Climax, MN. They moved to Walle Township, ND and farmed in Bentru Township, ND and later Walle Township.

Dorothy was a member of East Walle Lutheran Church, was active in WELCA. Dorothy was very involved in the family farm, hauling beets for her brother Johnny for 21 years. The most enjoyable time of year was the spring when all of the yard cleaning began. She took great pride in her home and yard, working from sun up to sun down. Driving her mule, sawing down trees, and picking up branches. One of her favorite sayings was "If I had a nickel for every branch I'd ever picked, I'd be a millionaire!" She was very self-sufficient, working on tractors, changing oil, and making sure everything was in working order. Dorothy was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often babysitting or running them to activities. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and loved to make you a meal to help you out after a hard day. She will forever be remembered for her off the wall accent, beautiful face, her love of hats, her independence, and most of all her love and dedication to her beloved "Georgie."

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Georgia (Mike) Egeland, Fisher, MN; grandchildren, Anita (Randy) Pecka, East Grand Forks, MN, Chad (Shawn) Egeland, East Grand Forks, MN, Dorothy (Jacob) Green, Fisher, MN, Bonnie Egeland, East Grand Forks, MN, Deana (Edward) Mayotte, Grand Forks, ND, Laurie (Allen) Rowzinski, Grand Forks, ND, JoAnn Boushey, Grand Forks, ND, Kerri (Duane) Hagen, Emerado, ND, Dean Johnson, Jr., Fargo, ND; great-grandchildren, Michael (Fiancé, Haley) Boushee-Egeland, Alyssa Pecka, Breanna Egeland, Dylan Egeland, Izabella Green, Mazzy Green, Dusty Mayotte, Cody Mayotte, Richard Fastner, Nicole Clark, Casey Holweger, Shauna Holweger, Dolly Boushey, Colt Schroder, Dylan Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Khloe Boushee, Laquan King, Damien Clark, Aaron Clark, Angel Clark.
