He was a sufferer for many years, but bore his pain with patience and fortitude. Death has again claimed one of our number, and Joe has been freed from bodily pain and anguish. Behind him is a life of honest toil, a record of service, and a record of helpfulness to humanity. He was always kind, considerate, and obliging. He was a devoted husband, a kind father, a good neighbor, and he was a Christian.
He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Cork of Livingston on January 29, 1900. Six sons and two daughters were born to this union. The oldest son, Walter Hubert, passed away September 7, 1923, and the two youngest children, Clyde Verner and Bertha Edna and his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife; four sons, Harry, Carter, and Carl of Terre Haute, and Harold of Paris; one daughter, Mrs. Vern English of Paris; two brothers, James and Clyde, of Marshall; seven grandsons and two granddaughters.
The funeral services were conducted at the Morrison Funeral Home in Paris with Rev. Delbert Wickstrom of Mattoon, a close friend of the family, and Rev. John W. Goodpasture of Terre Haute, officiating.
Burial was made in the Edgar cemetery at Paris, Illinois.
