Kyle J. Wells

Kyle J. Wells, 90, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Morgan Hospital and Medical Center in Martinsville. He was a resident of Martinsville.

Born Dec. 7, 1919, in Blackwood, Va., he was a son of the late Owen and Ida Alverta (Puckett) Wells.

On Nov. 2, 1940, he married Cordie L. "Peggy" (Hilton) Wells; and she passed away March 12, 2005.

Kyle was a superintendent at Old Hickory Furniture in Martinsville. Before that he was a coal miner.

He enjoyed playing bluegrass music with the Monroe Brothers and coon hunting.

Kyle is survived by a son, Cecil Guinn Wells (wife Alice) of Indianapolis; eight sisters, Nancy Kelso of Morgantown, Edith Flanary of Scottsdale, Ariz., Hazel McKinney of Big Stone Gap, Va., Joyce Glenn of Switzer, W.Va., JoAnne Dragoo of Rossville, Ga., Janet Colborn of Martinsville and Julia Benson and June Coffey, both of Indianapolis; five brothers, Johnse Wells of Eastland, W.Va., Jack Wells of Greenwood, Jim Wells of Oklahoma City, Jerry Wells of Indianapolis and Joel Wells of Martinsville; a granddaughter, Paula Kay Earnshaw; three grandsons, William Guinn, Robert Kyle and Patrick Wayne Wells; a stepgranddaughter, Michelle Herzberg; and two stepgrandsons, Mark A. Jacobs and Jeffrey L. Wool.

He also was preceded in death by his stepmother, Myrtle (Farley) Wells; two sisters, Mildred and Alma Wells; and a brother, John D. Wells.

The Rev. Pat Davis will conduct a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Costin Funeral Chapel, 539 E. Washington St., Martinsville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Centennial Cemetery in Martinsville.
