Nita Norris of Lubbock departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the age of 82. She was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Columbus, Ga., to Rufus Horace "R.H." and Maggie (Ballard) Adams. Nita graduated high school in Columbus then attended Georgia Southwestern, where she met her future husband, Robert R. Norris. They married Aug. 8, 1947, in Columbus, Ga., and then made their home in Lubbock in 1971.

Nita was a member of a number of civic organizations, including past-president of the Symphony Guild, ARCS and Lubbock Women's Club. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked part-time at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal with her husband and was a homemaker.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Allison Ridley of Lubbock; son, Chris Norris of Lubbock; brother, Don Adams of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Anne Hobbs Bradley of Atlanta, GA; and one granddaughter, Amanda Norris of Branford, CT.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert, in October, 1986; and one brother, Royle Adams.
